From reading  I can see that there are many different “favorites”. Different strokes for different folks. I am fond of the little brunettes while my roommate prefers the buxom blond. He is my wingman and I am his because we never go after each others mark.

The same goes with the still image. When I purchased my first 40 inch flat screen and then attached it to my computer, before even checking out what 1080i or Blue Rey meant, I fired up a slide show of my favorite horizontal images and watched the girls come to life. I immediately started fantasizing about the 60 inch screen and how insane Chloe or Victoria or Shey would look on that.

Eventually the novelty of that big horizontal started to fade and I went back to my first love—the full length vertical. Some of you may recal the vertical press monitors that apple had released in the mid nineties I believe. They were long and vertical to emulate a newspaper page so editors could better visualize the papers layout before going to press. I have a similar monitor manufactured by Lacie that rotates to give me a 24 inch vertical.

So with that you can now hear my voice on the set reminding and requesting that the photographers shoot those full length standing shots. “Did you get her from behind full length? The members want to see that you know”.

I cruised through the sets scheduled for release this month of March and found some stand out verticals to entice you with. I am hoping I am not the only one who enjoys seeing these lovely ladies standing tall. Is there a certain style of image that any of you prefer over others? Maybe the doggy, or the spread or the stretched out on her back full lengh horizontal?

Storytelling, even while generally explaining something to another person, nearly always involves painting a picture with words. Writers see creating pictures with words as our primary task, especially former print journalists like myself. Rod Stewart may have been correct when he pined that every picture tells a story, yet the reverse is also true: every story tells a picture, particularly when spoken.

What may surprise you is that nearly every business communication, be it a quick directive in your office to a presentation to an employee group, can be modeled upon this concept.

So how does one communicate more effectively using our “picture” model? First, picture an end in sight. Decide what you want to accomplish before, not during, the communication. This is important for two reasons: the first is that you need to know where you are going. Communicate with a purpose in mind. The second is strategic: always try to “link” communications with other strategic objectives. That way, you won’t have to continually create a new “picture” for your direct reports, board members or leadership teams. When you speak of arriving at the end of the tunnel, everyone will “see” it.

There are only four ways in which people communicate with each other: Educate, Inform, Persuade or Entertain. Light up your story by linking your picture to one of those four purposes. Find comparatives and illustrations to build a compelling story.

People love meandering stories–but get to the point. Remember, the pictures in your story are meant to provide reference points–lamp posts to the communication at hand and, in the process, make them real to the listener.

Even a poorly designed antenna will work good for someone somewhere. TV antenna designers struggle between… antenna size, looks and performance. If the antenna is too small it won’t work good. Each TV signal from each TV station is sent to the TV antenna on a specific frequency wave length. The more frequencies the antenna is designed to receive the larger the antenna must be. The TV broadcast frequencies are broken down into 3 groups. Low VHF channels 2 – 6, High VHF channels 7 – 13 and UHF channels 14 – 51. Nearly all U.S. TV stations use channel frequencies between 7 and 51 to broadcast their signal.

The channel number displayed on the TV or the number the station uses to identify itself may not be the actual broadcast frequency. The channel frequencies in use today by all full powered TV stations are channels 2 – 51 with majority of the stations using channels 7 – 51.
